#4: Zebra Art Project

I am realizing that in order to be a Blogger worth her salt, you probably need up-to-date technology, such as a computer that doesn't freeze every 2 minutes, a digital camera on hand, and even better an iPhone. But also, these things are not yet mine, but I am not giving up on meeting my goal of 52 pins in 52 weeks.
That being said, I am proud to announce that I have completed a pin this week, and come hell or high water, I am posting it.
This pin is from my Art Teacher Stuff board. It's the Zebra Art Project from smART class blog. I did this lesson with a private student I teach after school. Here's my example

#3: No Heat Curls

So, I know, I'm behind already, but scouts honor I did this pin last week. It's one that I had already tried before and know that it works. However, it's been a while since I've done it, so it counts, right? This pin comes my Hair Thee Well board. Here's what it looks like from the pin...

Pin #2: Skin Brushing

Not hair brushin', not teeth brushin', and not buskin'. Skin brushing. This pin is from my "Baby It's Cold Outside" board, dedicated to the survival of this tundra-like winter we are having (really, we've probably had more 60 degree days than anything so far, but i just know it's going to snow any day now...holding breath). Anyhow, you can read the main gist of it from the original source at Olivine's Charm School. For this project, I "brushed" myself right before I got in the shower and used some baby oil I had instead of the coconut oil. And, I tell ya, my skin is silky smooth. I will definitely try to keep this up through these rough winter months.

Pin #1: Green Smoothies

In keeping with the traditional New Year's call to live healthier after the Christmas sugar overload, my first pin for the project is Green Smoothies from my Good Food board. This is actually a combo of a few different pins as there are a lot of recipes out there, from Dr. Oz to holistic healers to mommy blogs. Since greens are pricey and I hate to see them go to waste, I pretty much stuck with the same one for the whole week. It's a "Winter Smoothie" that I kind of doctored up, 1 c. kale, a handful of chard, a little bit of ginger, and 2 c. of water. I prepared Ziploc baggies with all the stuff pre-measured, except for the water of course, and drank one every morning before school. Or at least tried to, the start wasn't so bad, but the last of it was hard to get down. On Saturday, I let Earth Fare make me one, and it was excellent, probably because of the fruit overload.
I must say I felt pretty darn good and healthy drinking those things and will try some different ones out. This week is mango, spinach, and ginger. We shall see....

The First

As I begin this first post for my first blog on the first of the year, I am reminded of my days as a student and my old friend...writer's block (dramatic music here). I've been cooking up the idea for this blog for a while now, ever since this past Fall when I was sitting with a friend discussing our latest obsessions with style blogs and the mother load of all Internet inventions, the beloved Pinterest. Nail polish tricks, a million hair styles I never dreamed possible outside the pages of a magazine, slow cooker recipes galore, all organized in one place and in reach. Pinterest, I dare say, has upped the ante. In truth, I was no slob before, I gleaned some pretty useful fashion and beauty direction from the pages of Lucky Magazine and the dearly departed Jane, but not to this magnitude and on a constant daily basis. Now, I feel the need to try to cascade braid my hair on a Tuesday and fix up furniture with chalkboard paint. Through this discussion with my friend, the student that's still in me started to wonder to what extent my day to day life had improved because of Pinterest. I admit I have been taking more care in my appearance (also read, vain), spruced up a few things in my place, and made some pretty good grub all with the help of pins from friends, followers, and my own Internet findings. All this has inspired me to start this blog in effort to actually try all those nifty ideas and see if it has any real effect on my quality of life. Each week I will choose one pin to try and document the results, culminating into 52 pins for 52 weeks. I predict I will be well feed and tired of painting my nails different Essie colors, but who knows what other skills I might pick up. If you feel so inclined to join this little social experiment, please do, and let me know what you find out about yourself or the reliability of baking soda as a cleaning product. Let the pin begin!
